A NY Mets fan’s wish list

With the 2020 Major League Baseball season finally here, here is A MET FAN’S WISH LIST.

First, I hope Steve Cohen gets complete control of the team immediately after the end of this 2020 season.

Cohen’s first act should be to fire Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen. He should be replaced with a well respected former baseball player or manager who knows what he’s doing.

Although Cano will still be under contract for until 2022, Cohen should instruct the new GM to see to it that Cano becomes the DH in 2021 and bats far down in the batting order because his skills are now diminished.

Cohen should also make it clear that he knows Jacob DeGrom is the best starting pitcher in baseball – but since he will turn 33 in June, 2021 – it’s time for a WIN NOW mentality and he (Cohen) will spend accordingly.

He instructs the new GM to let Marcus Stroman go (he’s over-rated) and instead sign the best free agent pitcher on the market in the off season – and pencil him in as the #3 starter in 2021.

It is anticipated that Noah Syndergaard will return strong as the #2 starter…and to help make that happen:

He instructs the new GM to spend what it takes to sign JT Realmuto as the new catcher starting in 2021.

The new general manager and Rojas need to put their heads together and decide to give both JD Davis and Dom Smith a chance to prove themselves as everyday players because of their hitting abilities and their great team player attitudes. Davis at 3B, Smith in LF, and of course now Jeff McNeil is at 2B in place of Cano.

The new GM and Rojas put their heads together and also decide that BOTH Seth Lugo AND Justin Wilson should be co-closers in the 9th inning. They have both proven their worth and there will be less strain on Lugo’s arm if he’s not expected to close every game.

Betances proves he’s back strong here in 2020 so he becomes the 8th inning set up man.

This is a simple wish. Something that any competent organization should have no trouble fulfilling. But this is the Mets we are talking about here.
